UK Lotto jackpot shared, but second prize creates only millionaire
Tonight’s UK Lotto jackpot was an exciting one as always, and the jackpot came in above estimate at £4.8 million. Five lucky players matched all the winning numbers, collecting £968,000 each, but in an unprecedented turn of events, just one person matched five numbers and the Bonus, collecting £1.4 million, the biggest prize of the evening!
The draw was much bigger than expected this evening, with almost £13 million paid out in prize money, but the second prize winner collecting more than the jackpot winners is virtually unheard of, and in our memory has never happened before.
We’ll be interested to see if this is the first time this has ever happened in the 18 years since the National Lottery launched. The UK Lotto jackpot winners will no doubt be happy this evening, but the second prize winner will be ecstatic, as the only millionaire of the evening!
It’s a very unusual set of circumstances indeed, but a lucky twist of fate for the five and the Bonus winner, who might have thought they’d been unlucky missing the sixth ball, but is actually the luckiest winner of the evening.
Congratulations to all of tonight’s winners, and if you haven’t yet checked the lottery results, we recommend you do so right now!
