Michigan Powerball winner claims $337 million
We’ve just seen a big Powerball rollover, the biggest of the year and it rolled all the way to $337 million before it found a winner. It’s been a couple of weeks since the draw, and everyone was wondering who that winner was, we knew it was a Michigan Powerball player but no more details had emerged. All that changed this week as a railroad worker from Michigan stepped forward to claim the huge Powerball rollover.
Donald Lawson came forward last week to claim the big Powerball prize, making him the third single biggest winner ever for the US Lottery drawing.
The lucky Powerball winner quit his job the day he found out he had won, and has no intention of going back to work. After accepting the lump sum payment, and paying Michigan taxes, he will collect a massive $158.7 million for his good fortune. While a sizeable win, Mr Lawson couldn’t resist having a dig about the level of tax he had to pay on the win, but overall he will no doubt be celebrating.
Mr Lawson said he checked the lottery results online after realising the winning ticket was sold in his local gas station, and kind of lost his breath when he realised he was the winner. He has said he intends to help out his family, and has indicated that he has always wanted to travel; with $158 million in the bank, this should be no problem for the lucky Powerball winner now.
The next Powerball drawing takes place this evening, and while the jackpot may not quite be $337 million, it is a rolled over $80 million and the draw is likely to be popular this evening.
